The setup tax is real
Most agent tools can load instructions from a special directory. That is powerful, but it makes installation feel like infrastructure work: find the right folder, copy the right files, and remember which provider reads which location.
The skill itself is rarely the difficult part. The difficult part is getting it into the right place without losing track of what changed.
A calmer installation flow
An installation flow should answer three questions before it makes a change:
- What does this skill do?
- Where will it be available?
- How do I undo it?
If those answers are visible, the action can stay small and reversible. The interface does the remembering so the person can get back to the work.
discover → inspect → choose a scope → install → use
Small actions compound
One saved minute is not the point. The point is that a lower-friction workflow makes experimentation safe enough to repeat.
