Skills are packages, not magic spells

An agent skill is a small, reusable unit of context and behavior. It can teach an agent how to work with a codebase, a framework, or a particular kind of task.

When skills live in different folders for different tools, the useful part gets buried under setup work. A good home makes the skill easy to find, inspect, and reuse.

What a useful home provides

  • A clear description before installation.
  • One copy that can be shared across agents.
  • A predictable place to update or remove it.
  • A project-level option when the skill belongs to one repository.

Start with the work, not the provider

The best first question is not “which agent am I using?” It is “what kind of work am I about to do?” The answer should lead you to the skill, while the provider becomes a delivery detail.

That small change in perspective is what turns a collection of prompts into a working toolkit.
